STUDENT ADMISSION

Method of Admission

The selection of students is carried out in accordance with current legislation, the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Regulations of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), and the provisions of this Regulation.

Every May, by decision of the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA, a public call for the admission of postgraduate students to the Postgraduate Program (P.M.S.) is published and posted on the website of the Medical School and the University. The relevant applications, along with the necessary supporting documents, are submitted to the Secretariat of the P.M.S. within a deadline specified in the call, which may be extended by decision of the Assembly of the Medical School.

The Assembly of the Medical School entrusts the Program Committee (S.E.) with the student selection process.

Required documents include:

  • Application form

  • Curriculum vitae (CV)

  • Copy (both sides) of the national ID card

  • Copy of university degree or certificate of graduation

  • Undergraduate transcript

  • English language proficiency certificate at B2 level or, if not available, the applicant’s English proficiency will be certified via multiple-choice exams

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Scientific publications, if any

  • Proof of professional or research activity, if any

  • Certificate of Greek language proficiency or verified Greek language knowledge by the Selection Committee for foreign applicants

  • Recognition of the foreign academic degree, if applicable

For students from foreign institutions who do not submit a certificate of academic degree recognition by DOATAP (Hellenic NARIC), the following procedure applies:
The Assembly of the Medical School appoints a committee to determine whether a foreign institution or a type of foreign academic degree is recognized. To validate a degree:

  • The awarding institution must appear on the list of recognized foreign institutions maintained and updated by DOATAP,

  • The student must provide a certificate of study location issued and sent by the foreign university. If the study location or part thereof is certified as being in Greece, the degree is not recognized, unless the part of the studies conducted in Greece was within a public Higher Education Institution (A.E.I.).

The evaluation of candidates and selection of admitted students is based on the following criteria:

  • Final undergraduate degree grade (10%)

  • Grades in undergraduate courses related to the subject of the P.M.S. (10%)

  • Relevance of the applicant’s degree and background to the subject of the P.M.S. (10%)

  • Certified English language proficiency (10%)

  • Scientific publications and participation in conferences (15%)

  • Letters of recommendation (10%)

  • Relevant research or professional experience (5%)

  • Possession of a postgraduate or doctoral degree (10%)

  • Oral interview conducted by a three-member committee appointed by the S.E. (20%)

Based on the overall criteria, the Program Committee (S.E.) compiles the evaluation list of students and submits it for approval to the Assembly of the Medical School.

Successful candidates must enroll at the Secretariat of the P.M.S. within thirty (30) days of the Assembly's decision. In the event of a tie (rounded mathematically to the nearest whole number on a 100-point scale), the tied candidates are admitted up to a maximum of 10% of the total number of admitted students. If one or more admitted students fail to enroll, the next candidates on the approved evaluation list will be invited to enroll.
